The Bridge of Dog Suicides
I live about 5 miles from this bridge, and I've always lived in the same area. Until yesterday I always avoided visiting Overtoun House because of this bridge - Overtoun Bridge. Around 300 dogs have leapt to their deaths from this innocuous - if slightly creepy - structure. Experts reckon they're lured by the smell of Mink and by the architecture of the bridge that hides the drop in elevation from the dogs. Indeed I only realised how high up the bridge was by peering over the sides. The Bridge has featured in a number of documentaries, most notably doccumentaries commissioned by Channel 5 and Animal Planet.
